Air Chrysalis - A Public Art Project

Walnut Creek Wetland Park. March - September 2026

Air Chrysalis

A temporary public art piece by artist Patrizia Ferreira that invites the viewer to slow down and reflect upon the state of our environment, the beauty around us, and how to best preserve it. Made entirely of plastic bags, many of which were found at one of Walnut Creek Preserve's regular clean-ups, is an homage to the handmade, to the slow work of artisanal communities across the world, to the power of collaboration and the infinite diversity of natural life.

Patrizia worked with dozens of volunteers and led community workshops to create the artwork.

Air Chrysalis is made of 415 plastic bags, a net base, twine, and yarn.

It measures: 6.6ft x 20ft.

Air Chrysalis was made with the support of the following organizations:

Raleigh Arts, Walnut Creek Wetland Park, Artspace, and Arts Access
